Bringing classical music to Wharfedale
At the heart of our the Verbeia Concert Series is a passion for the highest quality of musical performance. Our inaugural concert in July 2026 was a recital of French song by two former Jette Parker Artists at the Royal Opera House, Alexandra Lowe and Gabrielė Kupšytė and our first season sees several other artists of international renown coming to Wharfedale. Henry Websdale is the Artistic Director and Founder.
Verbeia
Verbeia is the name of a Romano-Celtic goddess, thought to be a personification of the River Wharfe. There is a memorial (which can be found in the Manor House, Ilkley) erected by a Roman legionnaire thanking Verbeia for rescuing him from a flood of the Wharfe, and a representation of a goddess believed to be Verbeia can be seen in All Saints’ Parish Church, Ilkley.
